Choline from Phosphatidylcholine PPC and GPC are Biologically Preferred
Choline and especially Phospholipid Choline is considered an essential nutrient and is one of the few nutrients allowed by the Food and Drug Administration and European Food Safety Authority to make health claims. Choline has many important roles in the healthy structure and function of the human body and is recognized worldwide as a critical nutrient in prenatal and infant nutrition.
New health claims describe choline’s role in reproductive development, organ development, brain develop and memory function throughout life. Other choline claims include normal lipid metabolism and cardiovascular health, homocysteine metabolism and liver function, among others.
A broad and deep body of research also reveals important metabolic synergies with other essential vitamins and nutrients.
Choline is life giving in that it is critical for making phosphatidylcholine for cell membrane formation, structure, repair, regeneration and proliferation. As cellular organisms consisting of some 50 trillion cells held together by some type of Cosmic Biological Glue, choline and phosphatidylcholine especially become critical building blocks for all life.
In fact, without these two very special molecules cell, tissues, organs could not be formed and indeed all organic life as we know it would not exist.
The Best Source of Biologically Preferred Choline is Pure PPC and Alpha GPC
Phospholipid choline in the phospholipid (PPC) and phosphoryl choline (GPC) forms are blood stable (stable in the water phase) and biologically preferred sources of the critical nutrient.
Choline in other forms and at higher doses is not stable. What isn’t immediately used for acetylcholine (an important neurotransmitter) synthesis is ultimately converted in the body to phosphatidylcholine for safe and stable storage and to be used for cell membrane formation, repair and regeneration.
When the body is calling for a choline source it will sacrifice phosphatidylcholine by removing the two fatty acids (lipids) to create GPC (Glycero Phospho Choline), which is the water-soluble head group (phosphorus, choline, glycerol backbone) of the phosphatidylcholine molecule. The GPC molecule is then further broken down to make choline available for acetylcholine synthesis and neurotransmission. Choline, phosphatidylcholine (PC) and Glycerophosphocholine (GPC) are in a constant state of flux, forming and reforming, and working synergistically to keep our 50 trillion plus cells metabolically stable and functioning properly.
Dr. Perricone wrote in his book the Perricone Prescription that in his “search to find the fountain of youth…he thinks he’s found it in PPC”.
We strongly agree!
And it makes perfect sense when you look at the metabolic importance and the life-forming necessity of choline and phosphatidylcholine. Life happens on the cell membrane and without choline to make phosphatidylcholine for cell membrane formation, respiration, repair, restructure, and regeneration; proper cell function and metabolism is soon replaced by dysfunction and disease.
As manufacturer of the most highly purified and pharmaceutical grade PPC and GPC products on the market and the leading healthcare practitioner brand, WE LOVE THIS STUFF.
And we are absolutely convinced that everyone on this planet interested in good health should be supplementing with PPC or GPC on daily basis.
The sad reality is that our modern diets do not provide enough dietary choline. The two most abundant sources of choline are liver meats and egg yolks. Now we all know how we feel about eating liver with fried onions, and egg yolks unfortunately have received such a bad rap over the last 40 years that most folks avoid them at their own peril (approximately 4 yolks per day would be great).
We understand our inherent bias for all things phospholipid, so if you are interested in learning more from an outside source, a recent article by Prof. Gene Bruno published in the Vitamin Retailer Magazine does a nice job of describing the importance of GPC. You can read the article here:
If you are interested in adding a preferred biological source of choline to your health regimen, Nutrasal manufacturers PhosChol PPC and Cerebra GPC, the two highest quality pharmaceutical grade forms available.
